MITER Brands is a leading U.S. manufacturer of windows and doors, formed by the combination of MI Windows and Doors and Milgard Windows and Doors. With thousands of employees across the country, MITER is known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and customer service.
Acquisitions are a central part of its growth strategy, requiring smooth and timely IT integrations to keep operations efficient and unified.
The Challenge
Following its $3.1 billion acquisition of PGT Innovations, MITER faced the complex task of migrating 4,500 users and more than 6,000 Power Platform objects into its Microsoft 365 environment.
The tenant consolidation needed to go right. Any misstep could disrupt operations across newly combined business units. At the same time, MITER’s internal IT teams were already managing multiple large-scale initiatives, stretching resources thin and making stakeholder alignment particularly challenging.
To maintain momentum, MITER began transferring data before governance decisions were finalized, resulting in scheduling challenges and process bottlenecks. Microsoft’s daily migration throughput cap (~1TB/day) added another layer of complexity, along with unexpected scope additions like Intune and device migration.
“It was like herding cats at times,” says Andrew Warfel, Manager of IT Infrastructure at MITER. “We were running four major projects in parallel, which made it difficult to commit resources at the right time.”
The Solution
To address these challenges, MITER partnered with Bravo Consulting Group and AvePoint, combining leading migration technology with deep delivery expertise.
Bravo led the full execution of the Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration using AvePoint’s robust software platform. The Bravo team handled everything from initial planning and bulk data transfers to incremental syncs, governance alignment, cutover orchestration, and post-migration validation. This comprehensive, hands-on approach maximized early momentum and ensured integrity and continuity throughout the process.
Bravo and AvePoint established a cutover plan to align teams and minimize business disruption, while advising on governance decisions and throughput optimization in real time. Working in close coordination with AvePoint, Bravo balanced precision and agility to keep the project on track despite resource constraints and scope evolution.
“The Bravo + AvePoint migration approach is well-rounded for Microsoft 365 content,” says Andrew. “It makes the technical data movement smooth and manageable, even with all the other complexities around us.”
Results & Business Impact
MITER successfully completed the migration three months ahead of schedule, despite parallel initiatives, evolving scope, and technical constraints.
The combined efforts of Bravo and AvePoint delivered:
- Unified Microsoft 365 environment: 4,500 users and over 6,000 Power Platform components consolidated into a single tenant
- Reduced operational risk: Minimal disruption across business units during and after migration
- Improved collaboration and visibility: A more connected and transparent digital workplace
- Stronger governance foundation: Better control and scalability for future growth
- Repeatable integration model: A proven framework for future acquisitions
What could have been a prolonged and disruptive process became a streamlined, business-aligned transition, delivered with precision and minimal impact on daily operations.
Most importantly, the migration strengthened MITER’s ability to grow through acquisition. Rather than spending months untangling IT complexity, internal teams can now align quickly on a single environment, enabling the business to stay focused on innovation, customer service, and operational excellence.
Looking Ahead
As MITER continues to expand through acquisitions and divestitures, IT integration remains a strategic priority. With a proven approach that combines AvePoint’s technology and Bravo’s execution expertise, the organization is well-positioned to scale efficiently and confidently.
The success of this project establishes a repeatable migration model, enabling faster integrations with less friction and greater agility in future initiatives.
“Now that we’ve got our feet wet with AvePoint’s migration solutions and Bravo’s support and guidance, it will be easier the next time around,” says Andrew. “Overall, the process is really smooth. It just makes things easier.”
